At Identity Oral Surgery, we are pleased to utilize the platelet rich fibrin (PRF) technique in order to accelerate patient recovery. With PRF, Dr. Preston Hansen can enhance the body’s natural healing mechanisms. This helps to prevent a dry socket as well as decrease post-surgical pain and swelling. Platelet rich fibrin is a three-step process that works as follows:
- Once your anesthesia has taken affect, Dr. Preston Hansen will draw a small amount of blood from the IV and place it in several tubes.
- These tubes are then spun in a centrifuge to concentrate the platelets that are in your blood naturally.
- After concentration, this platelet “plug” is taken and placed on the surgical site (i.e. your wisdom tooth sockets or dental implant site) before the gums have been sutured.
Over the course of 7 to 10 days, your platelets will slowly release all-natural, powerful healing facilitators. This is what facilitates faster healing, and a much lower dry socket risk. In addition, it can significantly decrease the amount of prescription pain medication you will need after your surgery. This also helps us fight the risk of opioid abuse. See how our PRF treatments in Salt Lake City, Utah, help senior patients work with their body to recover post-treatment. We invite you to give us a call at 801-251-7167 to learn more about this amazing technique and to schedule your appointment with our skilled oral surgeon.
