Are you about to get your wisdom teeth removed? If so, you are about to reach the top-notch oral health you deserve. Little did you know, the recovery after the surgery is just about as important as the surgery itself. This is why your dentist, Dr. Preston Hansen, strongly encourages you to take the recovery period seriously. To help you properly recover, he encourages you to do the following things:

-Rest for two to three days. Resting will help you recover the fastest.

-Ice the jaw with an ice pack to minimize swelling and to avoid any skin color changes.

-If you have an extremely sore jaw, heat the area by using a heating pack.

-Exercise your jaw regularly by opening and closing it.

-Only eat soft foods, like pasta, rice, yogurt, and soup, while you recover. Hard foods can harm the surgical site.

-Keep hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids.

-Brush your teeth on the second day of recovery. Make sure not to brush any of the blood clots.

-Take the medications your dentist prescribed to you.

-Call our office if the pain and swelling doesn’t improve or if you have a fever.
